My food in pictures

Hi everyone,

I got messages/questions about what do I usually eat,how much, when, if I can give an example of food I eat each day or what diet I am on.So, I thought this blog is a good idea to answer all those questions :)

Let me state first, I don't like the word "diet".Why?? Because when we think of " diet" we always think of those lost 7 lbs. in 1 week thing. To me, it's totally unrealistic and unhealthy.

If you follow me on my facebook page, I usually post my food pics on my timeline. My purpose is to share what a healthy eating is like and what I normally eat. As I wrote in the previous blog that I like keeping my food 80% clean and 20 % treats. I don't believe in 100% strict diet unless you're on figure competition. I believe in eating real food (most of time) and  enjoying your life :)

Staples in my nutrition are as follow :

Protein: Organic,free-range eggs(preferbly), chicken, turkey, homemade greek-style yogurt, cod, tilapia, shrimp, tuna, salmon, grass-fed beef(once a month), pastured pork

Starchy carbs : rice/brown rice, butternut squash, sweet potato.

Fruits : I love fruits :D So, I eat whatever  in season.

Veggies : Try to eat colorful vegetables as many as I can. Kale, collard green, spinach, romain lettuce, arugula, colored bell peppers, mushroom, carrots, celery, broccoli, cauliflower, zuchini ,herbs & spices etc.

Fat : Extra virgin olive oil, avocado, nuts( raw or dried roasted), coconut oil, coconut milk, almond milk, nitrite-free bacon (once a week)

Treats and 1 or 2 off- plan meals (Saturdays or Sundays...depends) : Tacos, pizza, pasta, my homemade ice cream, any kind of bake goods, and dark chocolate.

You see....I do eat!! LOL

Notes :
1. I'm not a food photographer and I use my ipad to take pictures. So my food might not look pretty.
2. I eat protein, vegetable and healthy fats at every meal and either starchy carbs or fruits depending on my training schedule.
3. I don't eat oatmeals,wholewheat/whole grain pasta or bread because they make my stomach bloat really bad, so you won't find them in my food list.

So, this is what I ate yesterday :

Morning : 1 big glass of warm water with freshly squeeze lime/lemon juice.I've been doing this in the past 3 years. It's a great way to wake up :)

Then I had a big cup of coffee with splash of organic half-half (sorry no pic)

                                                Breakfast 10:00 am.

Colorful plate ;)
2 whole eggs + 2 strips of bacon( not pictured)+ 2 cups of kale, couple strawberries, sliced and drizzled with little bit olive oil and fresh lemon juice. Kale has tons of calcium.Vitamin c in lemon juice helps your body absorb calcium from green veggies.

Lunch 2:00 pm

Chicken & veggies(red & green bell peppers, celery & zuchini) stired-fried with curry powder(ไก่ผัดผงกะหรี่). I ate with cauliflower rice( leftover from dinner yesterday)  Making this faux-rice is another great way to add vegetables into your diet. I will post the recipe later :)

Post-Workout Snack 6:00 pm
1/2 cup greek yogurt,1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup frozen blueberry, 1 handful spinach & unsweetened almond milk

Dinner 7:30 pm

Tilapia with yellow curry sauce( ปลานิลทอดราดซ็อสแกงกะหรี่),rice, grape tomatoes, cucumber & spinach. You can tell I'm a curry lover lol.  Those chili peppers, lime juice & fish sauce are my thai staples. I can't live without them :)

That was my food that I ate yesterday. As I said I keep it 80% clean and 20 % treats, let's take a look on that 20% I had today.

It was White chocolate & strawberry cheesecake. I shared this with the kids. It was absolutely divine!!

Now you might ask" How many calories is that??"  I simply don't care about counting calories. I used to do it and honestly found it was obsessive. In my opinion, t's not that important...seriously!! I eat when I'm hungry ,I eat real food and stop when I'm about 80% full.

Some of you might think I eat carbs so little and eat only 3 squar meals instead of eating 6-8 small meals. Well, there's no one-size-fit-all eating approach. We all are different. Some of you will do fine on heavy carbs but I don't. Eating too much carbs causes me sleepy and lack of energy. I do just fine on protein and fats even when I do weight training( and I'm not talking about lifting those 3 lbs. dumbbells ;) )
Eating small meals isn't suitable for me. I don't have time to sit down and eat "small meals" that often. I used to do that and found myself think about food ALL.THE.TIME!! And if I missed my meal, I got cranky!!  It's just me, if you're fine with small meals, then keep doing it :) There's no right or wrong.

The most important thing is eating this way makes me happy and healthy. It enhances my performance on my training and makes me feel good inside & out.

Alright, enough for me :) How about you?? I want to hear about what you eat as well :)

Ann
